Kate Boundy (1865?-1913) is a composer of whom relatively little is known. She has a Wikipedia entry<\/a>, but apparently this doesn\u2019t meet their criteria and might be removed (I hope not!). I first came across her and some of her organ pieces on a website run by John Speller in the U.S. This website doesn\u2019t exist anymore, but two pieces, the \u201eAndante grazioso\u201c and the \u201eAndante patetico\u201c can be found on IMSLP<\/a>. The pieces were published in \u201eThe Village Organist\u201c at the end of the 19th century. A third organ piece, Even Song, is in Vol. 2 of this collection and can also be found on IMSLP<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Pink recorded \u201eEven Song<\/a>\u201c and I made a recording of „Andante grazioso<\/a>„. I will probably record the \u201eAndante patetico\u201c this year. I already made a recording in 2020, but the audio quality is rather low and so I\u2019m going to make a new one.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

What I like about Kate’s music is that it\u2019s quite accessible, can be played on organs of different sizes and sounds rather pleasant. Scholars would probably say it\u2019s not \u201egreat\u201c musical material, but it\u2019s useful \u201eevery Sunday\u201c music and could also be suitable for teaching.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Kate Boundy (1865?-1913) ist eine Komponistin, \u00fcber die sehr wenig bekannt ist. Sie hat einen Eintrag in der englischsprachigen Wikipedia, aber dieser ist dort als \u201eunzureichend\u201c markiert und k\u00f6nnte irgendwann gel\u00f6scht werden (hoffentlich nicht!). Ich fand den Namen Kate Boundy vor einigen Jahren auf der inzwischen leider nicht mehr existierenden Website von John Speller und habe mir die dort zur Verf\u00fcgung gestellten wenigen Werke ausgedruckt. Zwei ihrer Orgelst\u00fccke, das \u201eAndante grazioso\u201c und das \u201eAndante patetico\u201c finden sich bei IMSLP<\/a>. F\u00fcr das dritte St\u00fcck, \u201eEven Song\u201c, ist ein wenig Bl\u00e4tterei vonn\u00f6ten, n\u00e4mlich im 2. Band der Reihe<\/a> \u201eThe Village Organist\u201c, wo auch ihre anderen Werke gegen Ende des 19. Jahrhunderts ver\u00f6ffentlicht wurden.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Andrew Pink hat \u201eEven Song\u201c aufgenommen<\/a> und ich habe hier<\/a> eine Aufnahme des \u201eAndante grazioso\u201c. Irgendwann dieses Jahr werde ich wohl auch das \u201eAndante patetico\u201c noch einmal aufnehmen. Die Aufnahme, die ich im M\u00e4rz 2020 gemacht (und damals bei Twitter ver\u00f6ffentlicht habe), ist von der Tonqualit\u00e4t nicht besonders gut und da mache ich es lieber noch einmal neu.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Was ich an Kate Boundys Musik mag, ist, dass sie recht zug\u00e4nglich ist und auf Orgeln unterschiedlicher Gr\u00f6\u00dfe gespielt werden kann. Und sie klingt angenehm. Wissenschaftlich k\u00f6nnte man vielleicht argumentieren, dass das Material nicht gerade \u201egro\u00dfartig\u201c ist, aber es ist sehr brauchbare \u201eMusik f\u00fcr jeden Sonntag\u201c und k\u00f6nnte auch im Unterricht Verwendung finden.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
