{"id":197,"date":"2023-10-19T09:40:07","date_gmt":"2023-10-19T09:40:07","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/aha-musik.de\/?p=197"},"modified":"2024-02-07T09:44:47","modified_gmt":"2024-02-07T09:44:47","slug":"emma-louise-ashford","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/aha-musik.de\/index.php\/2023\/10\/19\/emma-louise-ashford\/","title":{"rendered":"Emma Louise Ashford"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p><a href=\"#deutsch\">Hier klicken<\/a> f\u00fcr die deutsche Version.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It\u2019s about time to dedicate a blog post to one of the most prolific composers for organ and harmonium (and voice), and who\u2019s still not a \u201ehousehold name\u201c: <a href=\"http:\/\/www.evensongmusic.net\/?page_id=198\">Emma Louise Ashford<\/a> (1850-1930). She wrote more than 600 pieces, not only for organ, but also sacred hymns and cantatas and educational pieces and so on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I\u2019ve come across some of her pieces several years ago on the website of John Speller. Unfortunately, this resource is no longer online.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>But you can find many of the works of Emma Louise Ashford on <a href=\"https:\/\/imslp.org\/wiki\/Category:Ashford,_Emma_Louise\">IMSLP<\/a>. Some have been made available as single pieces, and others \u201ehide\u201c in the many volumes of the journal \u201e<a href=\"https:\/\/imslp.org\/wiki\/The_Organist_(Various)\">The Organist<\/a>\u201c that Emma Louise published together with Edmund and Karl Lorenz.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>All pieces are suitable for a variety of occasions, be it Sunday services, teaching or recitals. Some require large organs, others don\u2019t. Some can be played manuals only, for others you\u2019ll need a standard pedal board.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To save you a bit of time and effort, I have put together a list of the more than 120 pieces in \u201eThe Organist\u201c that have been uploaded to IMSLP today. To save me a bit of time and effort, all pieces in major keys will be upper-case, e.g. a piece in F major is simply written as \u201ein F\u201c, and all pieces in minor keys will be lower-case, e.g. a piece in a minor is written as \u201ein a\u201c. I will give German and English terms for flats and sharps and of course for the notorious H\/B confusion \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The page numbers refer to the pages of the pdf files, not the pages in the single volumes.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"#Liste\">Click here<\/a> to jump directly to the list.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>One of my favourite pieces is the \u201eFanfare\u201c. It has been published by Butz in Germany in the collection \u201eFanfaren in der Orgelmusik\u201c (BU 2780).<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>I have recorded some of the pieces and put them on my <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/ahamusik\/\">vimeo channel<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p id=\"deutsch\">Es wird Zeit, dass ich einer der produktivsten Komponistinnen des sp\u00e4ten 19.\/fr\u00fchen 20. Eine Komponistin, die trotz der mehr als 600 St\u00fccke, die sie f\u00fcr Orgel, Harmonium und andere Besetzungen schrieb, immer noch ziemlich unbekannt ist: Emma Louise Ashford (1850-1930). Eine deutschsprachige Biographie zu ihr habe ich bisher nicht gefunden, deshalb hier der <a href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Emma_Louise_Ashford\">Link<\/a> zur englischsprachigen Wikipedia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ich habe einige St\u00fccke aufgenommen und bei <a href=\"https:\/\/vimeo.com\/ahamusik\/\">Vimeo<\/a> ver\u00f6ffentlicht.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Eines meiner Lieblingsst\u00fccke, die \u201eFanfare\u201c, ist in der Reihe \u201eFanfaren in der Orgelmusik\u201c beim Butz-Verlag erschienen (BU 2780). Viele St\u00fccke finden sich au\u00dferdem bei IMSLP, und die meisten davon gut \u201eversteckt\u201c in den unz\u00e4hligen B\u00e4nden von \u201eThe Organist\u201c, einer Reihe, die Emma Louise Ashford zusammen mit Edmund und Karl Lorenz herausgegeben hat. Viele St\u00fccke sind recht kurz, viele lassen sich auf kleinen Orgeln spielen und\/oder manualiter; f\u00fcr andere ist eine gr\u00f6\u00dfere Orgel mit Pedal sinnvoll. Gute Gebrauchsmusik f\u00fcr den Gottesdienst und den Unterricht, und einiges ist durchaus auch konzerttauglich.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Ich habe mir die M\u00fche gemacht und die mehr als 120 St\u00fccke, die in den bis heute bei IMSLP hochgeladenen \u201eThe Organist\u201c-B\u00e4nden ver\u00f6ffentlicht wurden, in einer Liste zusammengestellt. Dur-Tonarten werden mit einem Gro\u00dfbuchstaben und Moll-Tonarten mit einem Kleinbuchstaben bezeichnet und Kreuz- bzw. B-Tonarten benenne ich zweisprachig, deutsch und englisch. Vor allem die Verwirrungsk\u00fcnstler H und B \ud83d\ude42<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Die englischsprachigen Fundstellen \u00fcbersetze ich in der Liste nicht.
