In the first week of June I had the great pleasure to visit this year\u2019s international symposium at the Orgelpark<\/a> in Amsterdam: \u201eInterfaces\u201c was the overall motto of this event and it was an immensely enriching experience.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

On the one hand, I\u2019m a bit sad that I had to miss the third day because I had to travel back for my Sunday work as an organist, but on the other hand, the two days were so intense that my brain is still busy processing all the information and ideas from the talks and the musical contributions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is a lot going on in contemporary organ music and several composers presented their work on the first and second day of the symposium.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We heard \u201eThree pieces for the end of the world\u201c by Jasmine Karimova<\/a>, a composer based in Amsterdam, performed by herself.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Franz Danksagm\u00fcller performed \u201eMisfold\u201c by Carla Scaletti<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarah Proske performed her piece \u201eAuf Erden\u201c for organ and electronics, and Anne Michael performed her piece \u201ePust\u201c for organ and live electronics (and voice).<\/p>\n\n\n\n

We also heard music by Katta, George Rahi, Dante Boon, Bernardo Mario Kuczer, Maximilian Schnaus, Dominik Susteck, Franz Danksagm\u00fcller and the ensemble TCP\/IP.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Utopa<\/a> organ played a major role during the symposium, but other organs<\/a> were heard, too, and when you\u2019re in Amsterdam, check out the varied and comprehensive concert programme<\/a> at the Orgelpark.
