Elizabeth Mounsey (1819-1905) was an organist, composer and guitarist in England. She’s the younger sister of Ann Mounsey Bartholomew and the sisters wrote harmonizations and interludes to psalm and hymn tunes.
Elizabeth wrote various pieces for organ. The „Variations on an old Christmas carol“ can be found on IMSLP and in the „Oxford Book of Organ Music by Women“. The old Christmas carol is one of my favourites, „Veni Emanuel“ and you need an organ with at least two manuals to do it justice.
Her fugues in d minor and g minor can be played on smaller organs and are available from IMSLP.
Elizabeth became organist of St Peter Upon Cornhill in London at the age of 14 and held this post until 1882 – she resigned due to health issues. Elizabeth became deaf. A sad fate for a musician, and shared by Ethel Smyth.
